Winning

Moving on with the County 60 Best of 2010 awards, the next category is for Best Stick. My Crimson 75ft Rear Mount Aerial took home the honors.

I had fun with building this one. This 75 footer is a replacement to the 103 ft aerial that I found as overkill for my Stony Creek Fire Department that already operates an 100ft E-One and an 95ft Suthpen Tower.

This Crimson is mounted to a Spartan Gladiator Chassis with a powerful 525hp Cat Diesel and Allison tranny. There is a 1000 gpm Akron monitor attached to the 3 section 75ft ladder. Pump operations are handled by a Hale DSD 1250 gpm pump & 500 gallon tank.

The tail of two Gladiators

Over the past couple of months, I have notice some of the builders are moving away from the well known Pierce and moving to lesser know companies. One of those companies is Crimson Fire and its gaining in popularity in the lego world and along with fire departments nationwide. Chicago ordered a fleet of new rigs from Crimson last year.

Alex W and myself have added Crimson’s to our fleets, including these 103’ Rear Mount Aerial’s. While both detail the features of the 103’ aerial, these two side by side show the difference in building styles. While there are only so many ways to brick a cab and body, it’s the details that make the difference. By adding mirrors or decals it can change the drastically change the look from builder to builder.

A thank you to Tom S of New Brick City for his help with Photoshop.
